Just another day

October 17th, 2006 | Category: weekend

It has been a pretty interesting week.

On Sunday morning, went for an aromatherapy massage in the neighborhood as my bones & joints were seriously aching to the core after two lethargic weeks. It was so bad that the cracking sound freaks people out. Massage therapy has always been my favorite activity and I make it a point to pamper myself once a month. Hehe The therapist diagnosed me with an ‘acute stress syndrome’ coz all the main nodes on my back were badly congested. I call it the consequences of sleep deprivation. :S

Sent my car for break fixture on Monday and I had to park inside KLCC when I reached work in the afternoon. I was flabbergasted at the exorbitant parking fees; it’s like a huge shark bite. It’s horrible.

Hence, I had no choice but to leave work early yesterday. Around 8pm, was about to go home for swimming but Bin called midway as she just got back from Melbourne. So instead of heading home, went to pick her up from her house to go for a drink to catch up on those missing details in the past 2 weeks as well as her recent trip.

We were at this place in Plaza Damas called The Vine Shop around Sri Hartamas area. Pretty nice chill out place if you are looking for quieter ambience, they offer quite extensive wine collection at very reasonable price too.

Are you on Vista?

October 14th, 2006 | Category: gadget, productivity

My machine is finally running on VISTA today. It’s really cool despite not having the most brilliant specs that I could dream of but it’s running fine and so far it hasn’t given me any problems yet. So, you don’t really need a DUO core processor for basic performance, and you don’t need 2GB RAM to install VISTA. :P

If my grandfather PIII machine who only has a pathetic 768RAM of memory can do it, you can do it too.

Here’s just a small snippet of how my desktop looks like now. There’s a dash board which features a clock, photo gallery slide show, RSS news feeder and plenty more wonderful features.

On a lighter note, this is what I’ve got when I was so bored in the office while waiting for my mailbox to synchronize. Funny.

Do you backup?

October 08th, 2006 | Category: productivity, work

It’s been hell of 2 weeks and boy… my eye bags are almost on par with the size of a ballon. not mentioning the volcano breakouts.

Hey you look like shit woman”
Can you please go home now before you collapse right here?”
Oh my what happened to you?”

I’m probably already immuned to remarks like these, which I usually reply with a wry smile.
I must detest. I am in fact, damn excited about my work. :P

——————————–

The short tale below illustrates a little more on one of the many dramas of late…

Say you’ve been working on a project, so hard that over weeks of sleepless nights to finally come up piece a proposal which you glee discreetly. Then you were waiting for that moment to share with your peers … …
But you’ve missed out a basic but crucial step. You forgot to backup.

That fateful morning, my laptop decided not to reboot itself. All it did was showed a brutal msg telling me ‘Hard disk error.’ The IT folks spent two hours to salvage but to no avail( the ITG did their best, they even put the disk into a freezer & foiled it). It was certified. Of all times it has chosen to lay rest at this moment. Now all your data’s lost. Everything that you’ve worked is gone. And I mean everything that I’ve been putting together in the past four months.

It was spectacular.  It’s worst than missing a very important flight. They gave me a new hdd with an extra 10gb capacity. So that’s a brownie point they claimed. Actually coming to think of it I didn’t even have the time to grieve over my lost data coz I had only a few hours to redo my deck of slides ( which includes retrieving all the data points that you’ve collected from hundred various sources in the past weekssss if not months).

At 6pm sharp, the management team arrived punctually. My supportive peers were giving me the supportive eye contacts. I did what I’ve got to do and two hours later, Viola!

Happy. Went home around 11pm to mourn my loss

Back up your data NOW!
